The Levy Story

In 1900, a Polish immigrant arrived in Savannah with a craftsman's gift. What began as a humble watch repair shop in City Market became the cornerstone of Savannah's fine jewelry tradition — a legacy now carried by four generations of family.

THE FOUNDING

Aaron Malitz Levy
Brest, Poland — 1900

Aaron Malitz Levy emigrated from Brest, Poland at the turn of the century and settled in Savannah — a city of moss-draped squares, antebellum grandeur, and a community that valued craft and heritage. He opened a modest watch repair shop in City Market, where he quickly earned a reputation for precision and honesty.

That reputation was Levy Jewelers' most valuable inheritance. It passed from Aaron to his son Jack, from Jack to his son Aaron, and from there to the fourth generation now shaping the store's next chapter.

Today, Levy Jewelers is Savannah's only fourth-generation family-owned jewelry business — and the city's only member of the American Gem Society, a distinction awarded only to jewelers who demonstrate the highest standards of ethics, knowledge, and consumer protection.

Four Generations of Family

1st Generation · Founded 1900

Aaron Malitz Levy

Emigrated from Brest, Poland. Opened a watch repair shop in City Market, Savannah — the seed of what would become the city's most beloved jewelry institution. His gift was patience: the precision of a watchmaker and the warmth of a trusted neighbor.

2nd Generation · From 1928

Jack Levy

Aaron's son took over stewardship in 1928, expanding the business from watch repair into fine jewelry. Under Jack's leadership, Levy Jewelers built its flagship at Broughton and Drayton Streets — the heart of Savannah's commercial district — in 1935.

3rd Generation · From 1962

Aaron Malitz Levy & Dayle Levy

Jack's son Aaron (carrying his grandfather's name) joined in 1962, with his wife Dayle following a year later. Together they grew Levy Jewelers to four Savannah locations and expanded into Jacksonville, Florida — cementing the brand's regional standing.

4th Generation · President, 2004–Present

Lowell Kronowitz

Aaron's cousin Lowell joined in 2004 alongside his wife Hilary, bringing new vision while honoring the store's deep roots. Under Lowell's presidency, Levy Jewelers was named by Veranda Magazine as one of the Top 16 Locally Owned Jewelry Stores in the Nation.
